Delete Facebook account in four simple steps

Once people realize how little they benefit by providing all their interest and behavior trends to Facebook Inc, they sometimes decide to delete their Facebook account and regain some measure of personal data security. It's not hard to do, but Facebook goes out of it's way to make the process hard to find. Here's how you do it:

  1. Login to your Facebook account.
  2. Go through your Facebook history and manually delete everything you can. If your Facebook history is long this could take some time, and does nothing to remove your data from Facebook and NSA archives, but it's still a good practice.
  3. Delete your Facebook account here:
  4. Celebrate your increased online liberty.

Early denizens of the Internet may recall the original online social networks, such as Usenet before it was "AOLed", the Institute for Global Communications (IGC), early IRC channels, and of course The Well. The despite the unending corporate media juggernaut, many or these communities still exist and thrive. Other alternatives can be found at the Free Software Foundation. That's "free" as in "free speech".
